Sinema Secures Fix to Protect Funding for Arizona Schools

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09) released a statement on her successful, bipartisan work to protect Arizona school funding established through Prop 123. Sinema led the effort to pass a provision, along with Senator John McCain (R-AZ) and Governor Doug Ducey, to secure a legislative fix confirming the will of Arizona voters and allowing the money to go to Arizona classrooms.

“Every Arizona parent should be able to send his or her kids to school knowing they'll get a quality education,” said Congresswoman Sinema. “Arizonans voted to set aside $3.5 billion for our state’s kids and I worked across the aisle with Senator McCain to protect the money Arizona voters directed to our schools. Working together to improve Arizona schools is common sense, but Arizona has a lot of work yet to do for our kids to get the education they deserve. I will continue to work hard to ensure Arizona students are prepared for success.”

Sinema successfully included the provision in the most recent government funding bill. The fix makes clear that Proposition 123’s changes to the state constitution have the consent of Congress.
