Sinema Statement on Farm Bill
May 18, 2018
Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09) released a statement after the 2018 Farm Bill failed to pass the House:
“Arizonans deserve a strong Farm Bill that does right by family farmers, puts food on the table for Arizona families, and has the support of both parties. This bill played politics with family farmers and our economy. It’s time for both parties to roll up their sleeves, get to work, and pass a commonsense Farm Bill that works for Arizona.”
The Farm Bill sets the nation’s agriculture and nutrition policy, yet partisan provisions added to the bill threatened and ultimately derailed passage.
Keith Murfield, CEO of United Dairymen of Arizona, recognized Sinema’s support for the state’s agricultural community following the vote:
“United Dairymen of Arizona appreciates Representative Sinema’s support for dairy and agriculture on numerous amendments to the Farm Bill, and look forward to continuing to work with her to enact a bipartisan, bicameral bill to benefit Arizona’s dairy families and all American agriculture by the time the current law expires on September 30.”
Congresswoman Sinema has long been a champion of a bipartisan, commonsense Farm Bill and continues to go to bat for Arizona farmers. She secured a provision in a previous Farm Bill to support Arizona farmers by targeting foreign agribusinesses that fraudulently mislabel their produce.
