Sinema Statement on Motion to Conference Deficit Financed Tax Cuts

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today the House of Representatives voted to go to conference on H.R. 1, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema released the following statement after opposing the motion:

“Rushing through a bill for short-term political gain is not in the best interest of Arizona or the American people. Congress needs to put partisanship aside, stop this broken process, and fix the bill.

"I've called for an open, bipartisan process because bipartisan legislation is the only legislation that stands the test of time. When President Reagan and Democratic Congress passed tax reform in the ‘80s, it took two years and bipartisan cooperation. It was hard work, and it was worth it. Americans deserve that type of leadership again.

“Arizonans want tax reform that is fiscally responsible, puts middle class families first, and creates opportunity and security for hardworking families and businesses. I will keep working to make tax reform a better deal for our state.”
