Sinema to Serve on New Terrorism and Illicit Finance Subcommittee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema, a member of the House Committee on Financial Services, was named to the subcommittees on Terrorism and Illicit Finance and Capital Markets and Government Sponsored Enterprises.

The Terrorism and Illicit Finance subcommittee was created this year to continue the work of the Bipartisan Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing, on which Sinema served in the 114th Congress.

“Terrorist networks constantly develop new ways to finance their deadly operations and threaten America,” said Sinema.  “To keep our country safe, we must be one step ahead of them, cutting off their funding and stopping their efforts. We made important progress with the Task Force to Investigate Terrorism Financing, but there is so much more work left to do. I am committed to working with my colleagues in both parties to get money out of the hands of terrorists and find solutions that protect America’s safety and security.”

Last Congress, the House of Representatives passed Sinema’s National Strategy for Combating Terrorist, Underground and Other Illicit Financing Act (H.R. 5594). This bipartisan legislation directs the Secretary of the Treasury, in coordination with other federal agencies, to establish a comprehensive strategy to combat the financing of terrorism and related forms of illicit finance.
