Sinema Visits Luke Air Force Base, Meets with Servicemembers

Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema (AZ-09) met today with base commanders, servicemembers, and Secretary of the Air Force Heather Wilson at Luke Air Force Base (AFB). The Congresswoman toured the base, talked with servicemembers about her work to provide the tools they need to keep Arizonans safe, and discussed the importance of continuing Luke AFB’s important national security mission with Secretary Wilson.

“Keeping Arizonans safe is our highest priority,” said Congresswoman Sinema. “Luke Air Force Base, its personnel, and its mission are essential to the safety of Arizona and the nation. I’m here today with Secretary Wilson to ensure we meet the needs of the brave men and women who serve on base and to support Luke’s critical role in America’s national defense.”

The Congresswoman was briefed on the essential role Luke plays in national security operations and the significant contributions the base makes towards training America’s combat pilots. Sinema also discussed ways to improve base operations in conversations with servicemembers.

Sinema has been a strong supporter of Luke and its servicemembers in bills that fund our national defense. The most recent provisions she helped pass include:

  • $23 million for construction for F-35 maintenance facilities;
  • $17 million to construction to support F-35 squad operations; and
  • A 2.6% pay raise for servicemembers.
