Combating Terrorist Financing

Dear Friend,

This week, the House of Representatives passed the Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act (H.R. 1698), the Sanctioning Hizballah's Illicit Use of Civilians as Defenseless Shields Act (H.R. 3342), and the Hizballah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act (H.R. 3329). These bipartisan bills, which I cosponsored, increase sanctions and cut off funds to Iran and the Hizballah foreign terrorist organization.

Terrorist networks constantly develop new ways to finance their deadly operations, and Hizballah continues to be a threat to the United States and our allies. Sanctions have had significant impacts on the Iranian economy, specifically limiting the Iranian regime’s ability to procure equipment for its nuclear and missile programs. Money is the lifeblood of any organization. These bipartisan bills strengthen efforts to combat terrorist financing and protect America’s safety and security.

As a member of the House Terrorism and Illicit Financing Subcommittee, I know we must be one step ahead of terrorist groups and take action to limit access to resources used by groups like Hizballah. In August, the president signed the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (H.R. 3364) into law, which included legislation we sponsored to establish a whole-of-government strategy to combat terrorism financing.
