Cutting Red Tape for Arizona Startups

Dear Friend,

This week, six days into the new Congress, the House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation we introduced with Congressman Steve Chabot to reduce the regulatory burden on Arizona startups and small businesses.

The Helping Angels Lead Our Startups (HALOS) Act ensures that startups and small businesses may participate in educational “demo days” without the burden of having to verify that attendees are accredited investors. Fixing this burdensome regulation allows small businesses and startup companies to connect with angel investors, business and subject matter experts, and entrepreneurs - enabling them to develop, create jobs, and fuel economic growth.

Demo days have helped thousands of small businesses share ideas over the past 30 years and are a foundational part of America’s small business community. These early networking opportunities, sponsored by universities, non-profits, eligible investors, and government entities, are critical for startups to get feedback on their business ideas and meet potential future investors. The HALOS Act clarifies regulations so that more hardworking and innovative entrepreneurs can turn their business ideas into reality, which is great for our economy.

Arizona is a fantastic place to start a business, and we should do everything we can to create an environment in which Arizona businesses can compete and grow nationally and gloablly. We have more work to do, and we will continue to work with our colleagues on both sides of the aisle to create economic opportunity for hardworking Arizona families.

We are honored to serve in Congress on behalf of Arizona families like yours. We always appreciate hearing from you on current topics and issues that are important to you.
