Ensuring Seasonal Firefighters Can Do Their Job

As you may know, the president recently signed an Executive Order implementing an across-the-board federal hiring freeze. In Arizona, this freeze jeopardized the U.S. Forest Service’s ability to hire seasonal firefighters who work hand-in-hand with Arizona firefighters to tackle the biggest, most dangerous wildfires.

Wildfires are a serious threat to Arizona’s public safety, so we led a bipartisan group of members including Arizona CongressmenTom O'Halleran, Andy Biggs, and Trent Franks urging the administration to grant a public safety exemption that will allow us to hire seasonal firefighters.

This week, the Forest Service told us our request was granted and seasonal firefighters can now be hired on time, before fire season begins. This is great news for Arizona! We’ll keep working with members of both parties to hold Washington accountable and solve problems for Arizona.
