Making Higher Education and Job Training More Affordable and Accessible for Arizonans

Dear Friend,

This week, we partnered with Tempe High School and a dozen other Arizona educational institutions to host a Higher Education Resource Fair and to provide high school students with valuable information as they prepare for college. Our goal is to give students access to resources and information that will encourage them to think seriously about applying to and paying for college. Using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), students and their families can apply for financial aid on October 1, three months earlier than previously allowed. You can learn more about the FAFSA and apply for federal student aid by visiting http://fafsa.ed.gov

One of my top priorities in Congress is making higher education and job training more affordable and accessible for Arizonans. Unfortunately, rising college costs and student debt discourage Arizonans from pursuing their dreams. To address this issue, I cosponsored legislation to expand student loan payment assistance programs, and I worked with members of both parties to reauthorize the Federal Perkins Loan Program through September 2017. The Perkins program has helped tens of thousands of Arizona students pursue an education.

Education was my ticket to the middle class, but for too many Arizona families, a quality education is increasingly out of reach. As someone who was only able to afford college because of Pell Grants and federal student aid, I know we must work together to protect and expand educational opportunities for our students while also ensuring our colleges and universities are good stewards of taxpayer dollars. I will continue fighting to increase investment in both K-12 and higher education to ensure our kids are prepared for the jobs of the future. I am committed to working with members of both parties to find reasonable solutions that tackle rising college costs and expand economic opportunity for Arizona students and families.

I am honored to serve in Congress on behalf of Arizona families like yours. As your representative, I always appreciate hearing from you on current topic and issues that are important to you. If there is an issue that concerns you, please let me know by clicking this link or by calling my Phoenix office: 602-956-2285. Be sure to stay connected through our Facebook and Twitter accounts, and let us know how we can be of service.

Sincerely,

Kyrsten
